THE STORY BEHIND STORYBOOK
https://youtu.be/Joq5OgRfZsA
Storybook is an instrumental song that was created on the fly. I had my @ToneWoodAmp on my Acoustic Guitar and had it set up with a long hall reverb that created a lingering atmospheric sound. I then decided to make a video with my phone inside of the guitar looking out. I started the camera recording on my phone and slipped it through the strings, carefully laying it down flat and looking upwards inside of the guitar. I had also turned the camera light on so that it would allow the camera to see the strings better. After that, I simply started playing and let the music create itself and the end result sounded so good that I decided to keep it.
Since the video portion of the song was vertical and only showed 6 strings and my fingers, I wanted to explore how to make it more interesting to watch. I layered the video on top of a photo of another guitar and lined up the strings as best I could. Then I added stock footage, blended in, to give it more depth and a sort of visual storyline.
Next came the name of the song, which I had originally decided would be, "Fly Away Home" but now the name "Storybook" seemed to be a more appropriate title that went along with the subject matter of the video that I had now created for it.
The audio is preserved just as it was recorded, inside of the guitar. The ToneWoodAmp created all the rich sound by vibrating the wood on the back of my guitar to create the reverb. The phone captured the audio in a well balanced stereo sound, on the recording. I saw no need to do any mixing and mastering as the spirit of the whole project was to just create something in the moment and see what the outcome was.
I love my ToneWoodAmp and if you are curious about how it works, please visit their website - https://www.tonewoodamp.com/ . There you can order one for yourself and let it inspire you to create something new, like I did.
